2014 Call for scores

Dim Sum Ensemble is seeking suitable scores for the November 2014 Toronto concert titled hatch, and future concerts.

General Guidelines

  • Open to Canadian composers or composers living in Canada, of any age
  • Composers of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply
  • Original compositions only
  • 6 – 9 minutes in duration
  • Pieces of moderate difficulty are more likely to be selected. Please visit Dim Sum Ensemble’s Youtube channel to view past performances.
  • Selected composers will be provided with a $100 honorarium and invitation letter for travel grant application to attend the concert
  • Performing rights fee to be paid to SOCAN

Instrumentation

Must use the full ensemble consisting of:

  • Zheng (1 player)
  • Percussion (1 player)
  • Erhu (2 players)
  • Zhonghu (1 player)
  • Cello (1 player)
  • Conductor

Timeline

  1. Contact us by Feb 28, 2014 to indicate your interest
  2. E-mail full score PDF by May 30, 2014 (e-mail address to be provided)
  3. Selected composers will be notified by July 15, 2014
  4. Parts PDF are due by July 20, 2014

Notes

  • Zheng: 21 steel strings
  • Erhu: standard D-A tuning
  • Zhonghu: standard G-D tuning; notate on treble clef
