Digital Hub: Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong

In 2008, Hong Kong composer Alfred Wong 黃學揚 wrote Digital Hub 數碼之源 for the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. It is named after the Sham Shui Po district in Kowloon where there is a concentrated source of computer products and electronic accessories. I first heard the piece from a concert DVD by Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra 小巨人絲竹樂團. The sound of the urban, digital landscape left a deep impression. During my visit to HK in 2012, I met Alfred through a tour of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Only until recently did I put 2+2 together and realized that Alfred was the composer that I heard from the DVD. Alfred has graciously shared his score with me and allowed me to make a chamber rendition of it for Dim Sum Ensemble. We are planning to end our Oct. 27, 2013 concert with this piece.

Here is the video of Digital Hub 數碼之源 as performed by the Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra 小巨人絲竹樂團, conducted by our dear friend Mr. Chih-Sheng Chen.
